Music | Visual Media

Hi, I’m Kathleen. I’m a Music Supervisor for film and TV.

I started working life as a freelance cellist, after graduating from The Royal Academy of Music in London. In 2017, I founded a company called Music In Vision, which casts musicians for roles in film, TV and commercials. I'm based between London and Berlin.

As a freelancer, I provide Music Supervision services to production companies. I am an Assosciate Supervisor of The UK and European Guild of Music Supervisors, and The Production Guild of Great Britain.

Music Supervision

2017 – Current

My expertise as a music consultant spans a variety of different clients and environments. As my agency, Music In Vision, grew, the natural progression was to move into music supervision; my latest work as a Music Supervisor was for Napoleon, dir. Ridley Scott, for Apple TV +.

Although I come from a classically-trained background, I am used to working in many genres of music, both as a consultant and a performer.

One of my passions is the potential of music and musicians to enhance visual media projects. In particular, I believe that one of the most powerful and transformative outcomes we can see for brand growth are those with musicians and creative performers.

Acting as the intermediary between brand/organisation and the musician, I work collaboratively in planning the production right through to on-set, as the scenes take place in real time.

Contracting and Casting

2017 – Current

In 2017, I founded Music in Vision to bridge the gap between Musicians and Film Production companies. We provide musicians for on-camera work in film, TV and commercials.

As a classically-trained freelance cellist, I recognised first-hand the clunky process of booking musicians could be simpler, smoother and faster.

I’m still at the helm, but I now employ talented staff, a greater range of services, and have an ever-expanding pool of talent to draw upon. As client needs have grown, so have the company’s specialisms; covering individual music production elements or the complete suite of services.

Music in Vision is devoted to adding value, expertise and peace of mind to every project we’re involved with - passion for production borne from the love of music.

Speaker and Educator

2006- Current

I have coached both actors and amateurs to play cello, piano and viola da gamba over the years. In 2020, I set up a series of courses, The Musician Method, to help professional musicians position themselves as business owners.

I have lectured on career topics for The Royal Academy Of Music in London, and The National Student Opera Society. Mentoring roles include organisations such as The Young Classical Artists Trust and Future Talent, as well as individual musicians. I have spoken on a music industry panel at The Strad festival, and I had an article commissioned by written The Strad magazine about film music consultancy.

I always aim to be supportive of other artists and colleagues within the music industry. I have spoken at The Royal College of Psychiatrists on the topic of a working mother‘s lived experience of postnatal depression, for the London Perinatal Mental Health network.

Podcast appearances include The A&A Opera Pod, What Would Mozart Do?, and The Hip Hop Orchestra podcast.

Musician

2006- Current

As a cellist and viola da gamba player, I’ve performed all over the world. Until my work at Music In Vision took over, I was a member of Ivor Novello award-winning mediaeval supergroup, The Mediaeval Baebes. A career highlight was performing with them live on Iggy Pop’s BBC 6 Music show in 2018.

As a cellist, I studied for my undergraduate degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and gained a Masters degree at The Royal Academy of Music, in London. Whilst there, I focused on Historical Performance practice.

After graduating, I performed regularly with many of the leading period instrument ensembles and orchestras in the U.K. I also worked as a background extra in film productions as a musician. After working on a Burberry commercial, I had the idea to set up an agency which provided musicians exclusively for on-camera work; Classical Vision. As I eventually became busier and provided any and every genre of musician, the natural progression was to re-brand as Music In Vision.
